With the 2026 general elections fast approaching, the National Unity Platform (NUP) in Mityana District has intensified its mobilisation efforts as the party positions itself to win all parliamentary seats in the district.
NUP flag bearers in all constituencies, led by Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi, spent the day traversing villages in Mityana South to consolidate support, harmonise party structures, and rally voters behind Kevin Nalwoga, the NUP flag bearer for Mityana South.
Zaake said the renewed momentum is part of a broader strategy to strengthen unity within NUP and prevent internal divisions that could weaken the party’s performance in the highly competitive 2026 race.
He emphasised that a coordinated grassroots approach will be central to securing victory across all constituencies.
“We are moving as a united front,” Zaake noted. “Our goal is clear: Mityana should deliver all its parliamentary seats to NUP in 2026. Mobilisation at the village level is the backbone of this strategy.”
The team made multiple stops across the district, meeting community leaders, youth groups, and local supporters. Residents were urged to remain committed to the party and to evaluate candidates based on competence, vision, and dedication to community service.
One beneficiary of the mobilisation drive is Prossy Mukisa, commonly known as Nabbosa, an aspiring candidate seeking to become Woman Member of Parliament for Mityana District and unseat current MP Joyce Bagala Ntwantwa.
She described the visit by top party leaders as both encouraging and politically significant.
“This visit is a strong sign that NUP is more organised and united than ever before,” Nabbosa said. “We are working hand in hand to ensure that the people of Mityana get leaders who genuinely represent their interests.”
She added that community engagement remains at the heart of her campaign and promised to prioritise service delivery, inclusion, and youth empowerment if elected.
The party’s increased activity comes as political competition in Mityana South intensifies, with both ruling and opposition parties expanding their outreach ahead of the elections.
NUP leaders say their focus in the coming months will be on strengthening mobilisation committees, training polling agents, and addressing internal structural gaps to ensure a smooth and effective campaign season.
As campaigns gather pace, Mityana is expected to remain one of Buganda’s most closely watched battlegrounds, with NUP hoping its grassroots-driven strategy will deliver a sweeping victory in 2026.
